The Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA) is an annual event that recognises non-listed Malaysian businesses for their contributions to the economy. Businesses are evaluated based on their operational procedures, adaptability, profitability and environmental impact.

The awards are presented in two categories: businesses with a sales turnover of below RM25 million and businesses with a sales turnover of RM25 million & above. This approach recognises both upcoming startups and established businesses — evaluating their achievements on a level playing field.

Many past SOBA winners have gone on to list on the Malaysian stock exchange. Besides encouraging local businesses to promote Malaysian products and services to the world, SOBA inspires homegrown businesses to excel beyond their established standards and contribute to a better Malaysia for all.
